Spanish Reading Program Volunteers

Our reading program is designed to support Spanish language learning through reading stories to Key students in Spanish as well as family and community engagement. Reading by volunteers take place at the end of each week between 9: 00- 9: 10 a.m. A week before your assigned reading begins, look for a reading bag to arrive in your child's backpack. Inside you will find a book, in Spanish, chosen by our librarian, along with a set of directions. Volunteers arrive at the school 15 minutes prior to their assigned reading time. For obvious reasons, volunteers should be able to read and understand the Spanish language, but it is not necessary for Spanish to be their mother tongue. Being a model reader is a powerful message from you to your child and their friends about the importance of learning another language and/or maintaining a heritage language.

The program serves VPI, Kindergarden, 1st and 2nd grade.

Sign up links are sent by the coordinator and by room parents. Generally volunteers are sought from within the students class and from the community when spots are not filled.

If any member of your family wants to participate or has questions about the program, please contact Stephanie Westerlund at abejaslectoras@keypta.org.
