Abejas Lectoras

Character Education - One of Key’s goals is to develop civic-minded students of high character. We want all students to acquire the beliefs, emotional intelligence, and behaviors necessary to do what is right simply because it is right. To that end, we involve students, staff, and parents in an active Character Education program that includes Character Rocks (a student-run activity), Parent Institutes (speakers and materials on character education topics), and several in-school activities. We promote four character traits: Respect, Responsibility, Trustworthiness, and Kindness. For more information on Key’s Character Ed Program, please go to key.apsva.us/character-education/.

After-School Enrichment - The PTA offers several after-school enrichment activities for Key students.  Enrichment classes are a great opportunity for students to learn fun and exciting things in a safe environment.  Classes span a variety of subject areas such as sports, music, architecture, and computer programming. All courses are taught by qualified professionals and take place at Key immediately following the end of the school day.  Approximately 45 classes are offered each school year: 15 each session (Fall, Winter, Spring).  It is important for all children to have enrichment opportunities; therefore, approximately 20 scholarships are awarded each session.  Scholarships are furnished by the class providers as well as the PTA.

Apicultures Award for teachers and staff - A monthly award to recognize the amazing work of Key teachers and support staff. Award dates are generally between main PTA meetings (3rd Tuesday of every month). Award winners receive a small gift certificate and letter thanking them for going above and beyond.
